The solution is presented in the form of an enterprise-level data protection software that automates and unifies backup to disk-based, tape, and flash-based storage media across virtual and physical environments for effective disaster recovery. Cross-platform support is provided for Windows, Linux, NetWare, macOS, OpenVMS, and Unix platforms. Deduplication of backup data is provided by integration with the storage solutions from the company.
A central server of the solution manages a datazone that contains backup clients and storage nodes of the solution for accessing backup media. The platforms that are supported by the core server of the solution are: AIX, HP-UX PA-RISC and Itanium, macOS (client only), Linux (fully featured on x86, x86-64, Itanium, client only on PowerPC and IBM Z), Solaris SPARC and x64, SGI IRIX (client only), Tru64, and Windows.
Bundled software that comes with the distribution of the solution provides a user interface for functions such as policy settings, client configuration, monitoring, schedules, reports, and daily operations for deduplicated and non-deduplicated backups.
The core software backs up operating system environment and client file systems. Add-on database and application modules provide backup services for products such as DB2, Oracle, Lotus, SAP, Sybase, and Informix as well as SharePoint, Microsoft Exchange Server, and SQL Server. Client backup data can be stored on a locally attached device by the use of a dedicated storage node or be sent to a remote storage node. The solution also supports Client Direct backups, enabling clients to back up directly to shared devices while bypassing the storage node processes.
