MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA (MEA)
The MEA comprises the regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Egypt. The cities in Oman, Qatar, Dubai, and Saudi Arabia are witnessing rapid growth in the number of projects. The petroleum, and oil and gas verticals are the most frequently targeted by cyber-attackers in the UAE and Saudi Arabia due to increasing industrial automation. After the major cyber-attack on the oil giant, Saudi Aramco in 2012, which resulted in several infected personal computers (PCs), the number of government initiatives as well as investments by countries, such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE to avoid future data breaches, has increased significantly. Considering the political instability in most of the countries in the MEA region and the growing vulnerability of critical infrastructures to cyber threats, ICS security spending is expected to be substantial in the future. Furthermore, the 2013 prediction report by security company Symantec has stated that the UAE is among the top countries susceptible to cybercrimes. A cybercrime report from Norton estimated a loss of around USD 2.0 million incurred by 1.5 million people in the region who have fallen victims to cybercrimes in recent years.
