PET preforms are unfinished PET bottles with varied neck sizes. They are made of PET resins, which are linear thermoplastic, white but bluish resin made from terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol through a process of poly-condensation. PET preforms are either produced using the one-step “hot preform” method or by using the two-step “cold preform” method. In one-step method, all processes from PET granule to finished bottle are completed in one integrated machine and the method is highly suited for small and medium scale production lines. Two-step method uses two separate machines, wherein the preform is injection molded on the first and reheated and blown on the second. This method is most suited for medium to large-scale production.
