Hexamethylenediamine is a chemical compound with the chemical formula H2N-(CH2)6-NH2. It is a colorless solid, which is manufactured by the hydrogenation of adiponitrile. The manufacturing process is performed with a mixture comprising ammonia and hydrogen in the presence of cobalt or iron catalyst with a temperature range of 100° C to 275° C. Hexamethylenediamine is mainly used for the production of polymers, mainly Nylon 66 and polyurethanes. Besides this, hexamethylenediamine is also used for the formulation of coatings, curing agents for epoxy, additives for petroleum, adhesives, inks, scale inhibitors, and many among others.
