EMERY OLEOCHEMICALS Presence in
Fatty Alcohols
Emery has a history of 175 years of manufacturing oleochemicals and their related products and technologies. The company grew expansively in the last century through mergers & acquisitions. Henkel KGaA, the holding company for the Henkel Group, finally acquired the Emery division in 1989 to reinforce its leadership in the oleochemical-based products. The company was named Cognis in 2005, with an equal joint venture with another company Golden Hope Plantation (later Sime Darby Plantation) to finally become Cognis Oleochemicals (M) Sdn Bhd (COM). The company’s widespread manufacturing sites at Cincinnati, Düsseldorf, Loxstedt, Toronto, and Malaysia were integrated with COM, to establish one of Malaysia’s largest oleochemical producers and the world’s second largest fatty acid producer. In 2009, the company was named Emery Oleochemicals by its shareholder Sime Darby Plantation and PTT Global Chemical. The company has not been actively involved in adopting any business strategy in the past two years, but production of RSPO Segregated fatty alcohols solution under the EMERCO series in 2014 has helped the company to cater to growing demand from the personal care industry.
