Demulsifiers, also known as emulsion breakers, are specialty chemicals which are used to separate oil-water emulsions. The emulsions can either be water-in-oil or oil-in-water. Demulsifiers are generally classified into two types; oil soluble demulsifiers and water soluble demulsifiers. They are used in various applications, such as crude oil, petro refineries, oil-based power plants, lubricant manufacturing, sludge oil treatment, among others.
